For those of you who have been contemplating the issue of statehood
there is a site that you should examine and get a view of what is to come!
You must bear in mind that what the right wing republican faction have in mind is to turn this island over to the United States upon it becoming a state. They say no but we will no longer have a voice or say in our lives. It will be stateside politicians that will rule over us. What good habitable lands remain will go to them and the local population will be marginalized as has happened in Alaska as well as Hawaii.
Here’s What The History Books Won’t Tell You About Hawaii-
Western diseases, to which Hawaiians had no immunity, decimated their numbers. At the time of western contact, some 800,000 people inhabited the Hawaiian Islands.
By 1805 that number had been halved.
By 1853 there were only 71,000 Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian people in the islands.
Within 100 years of western contact, the Hawaiian population had been reduced by nearly 90 percent.
According to the 2000 census, the numbers of people who claim some native Hawaiian ancestry have increased to over 400,000. But only 239,000 live in Hawai`i and they are the poorest, most locked-up population in the state.
Although they only make up about 20 percent of the state’s population, in June 2001 they made up 39 percent of the state’s prison population, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
Sadly, they make up 37 percent of the state’s homeless population.
Does it sound familiar? Are we not already experiencing this? More and more lands are being taken over by developers and being converted into very expensive homes but for who?
How many that are reading this blog can actually afford $400,000.00+ homes in shut-in communities?
Our treasured Church Plaza’s have been taken over by the appearance of the Modern Malls that have sprung up all over the island leaving many of the towns practically bare with stores and other businesses that are forced to shut down.
